THE Traddock at Austwick has been named one of three "Old Favourites" in the Sawday's British Hotel Awards.

The grade-two listed country house hotel has been owned and run by The Reynolds family since 2002 and offers 12 individually-designed ensuite bedrooms.

“The Traddock has a bit of everything - chic style, delicious food, a complete absence of pomposity," said Tom Bell, editor of Sawday's Special Places to Stay: British Hotels & Inns guide. "It has some lovely staff to point you in the right direction."

Mr Bell also praised the hotel for retaining original style and values while "refurbishing with panache to keep up with the times".

"There is more innovation and creativity in an excellent small hotel than you would ever find in a corporate chain," he said. "Our award winners showcase the very best of British hotels with chic interiors, charming staff and delicious food.”

In 2013, The Traddock won both the Condé Nast Johansens Readers' Award and the Good Hotels Guide Country Hotel of the Year.

Co-owner Paul Reynolds said: "After 13 years at The Traddock, we are still striving to improve our offer every day.

"It is wonderful to be recognised for the efforts we make to ensure our guest experience is second to none."

Keen environmentalists, the Reynolds gained a gold award in the Green Tourism Scheme in 2014.

Eco-initiatives include a wood pellet-fuelled heating system, a locally-sourced slow food-inspired menu, extensive herb and wildlife gardens, a move to greener cleaning products and the use of low energy lighting.

Many breakfast and dinner items are made on site, including bread, jams, fruit compotes, yoghurt, cereals, biscuits and cakes.

The Traddock, along with other "Old Favourites" Pen-y-Dyffryn Country Hotel, Shropshire, and The Old Rectory Hotel, Exmoor, are included in the newly-published 17th edition of Sawday's Special Places to Stay: British Hotels and Inns.
