HOUSING association Horton Housing has retained its Investors in Diversity accreditation for the sixth year running.

Horton provides a range of housing and support services in Craven and across North Yorkshire to some of society's most vulnerable people.

The accreditation, given following an assessment by the National Centre for Diversity, recognises its commitment to achieving and improving equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices in the workplace.

Horton manages more than 30 different housing, training and support services across North Yorkshire, and also Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees.

It provides specialist support and quality accommodation for the most vulnerable in society including homeless people, young people, older people, people with mental health problems, those with drug and alcohol addiction, refugees, gypsies and travellers, and ex-offenders.

The assessment involved online questionnaires with stakeholders, employees and clients of Horton Housing and a day of interviews with members of staff and service users. Evidence including policies, recruitment advertising, training documents, case studies and board reports was also gathered.

The assessor Jo Barton commented: “Horton Housing has made a massive commitment to embedding an inclusive culture as this is part of the ethos and everyday practice of the organisation.”

Paul Gartland, Horton Housing's chief executive, said: “I am delighted that we have retained this very important status which recognises the commitment of Horton to equality and diversity.

“Everyone plays a part in creating a culture where we promote and celebrate diversity, ensure people are treated fairly and with respect, and are encouraged to raise and discuss any issues that they might face.”
