SKIPTON based design engineering firm Chelker Technology has won a trio of new contracts following the EU referendum.

Flying in the face of post-Brexit fears, the product development company has secured a significant contract with JW Froehlich – a global technology firm specialising in supplying equipment to the automotive industry.

It will help supply a series of innovative machines for use in developing a new breed of technologically advanced, fuel efficient petrol engines to be manufactured at Ford’s production plant based at Bridgend at the end of 2018.

In addition, the engineering design firm has also secured two further significant contracts in the last month.

Again, in the car industry, Chelker has designed a range of specialist production tools for Rosti Automotive, a firm that supply plastics to the motoring industry worldwide, including Jaguar Land Rover.

A third contract requires the firm to design a high temperature flue for a new waste to energy gasification plant being built in Hertfordshire - set to become the largest of its kind in the country.

Chelker Technology's managing director, Neil Kernot, said he had confidence in a post Brexit UK.

And despite a turbulent period following the EU Referendum in June, he believed manufacturing had bounced back.

“Enquiries have significantly increased lately and we are currently pitching to a number of leading businesses in the automotive, aerospace and rail industries. We have also had enquiries from firms that have previously been manufacturing in China. I am encouraged by the pipeline of opportunity out there and these recent contract wins underpin our confidence for the rest of the year.”

Skipton based Chelker Technology was founded by Neil Kernot in 2003 and employs six people, mostly professionally qualified and experienced engineers, who specialise in design and manufacturing technology.

The firm, based in Swadford Street, is due to attend the Thrive Yorkshire Business Growth conference in Ilkley on September 29.
