A SILSDEN company has pledged its renewed backing to the armed forces.

Snugpak has recommitted itself to the so-called armed forces covenant for a further year.

The military is a long-standing customer of the Howden Road firm, which produces sleeping bags and insulated clothing.

Sales director Darren Burrell, who signed the covenant on the company's behalf, said: "The covenant is a pledge of acknowledgement and understanding that those who serve – or have served – in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities they serve.

"It focusses on helping members of the armed forces community have the same access to Government and commercial services and products as any other citizen.

"This support is provided in a number of areas, including education and family wellbeing, starting a new career, access to healthcare and financial assistance.

"Our commitment to the covenant is in recognition of the value that serving personnel, veterans and military families contribute to our business and the country."

As well as being used by the military, Snugpak's products are also popular with global expeditions.

In April, the company scooped an accolade in the sleeping category of the UK Outdoor Industry Awards.

The honour was in recognition of the firm's innovative Hammock Cocoon, designed to keep the user warm and comfortable when sleeping outdoors.

Mr Burrell, said: “We were very pleased at winning the award.

"The company prides itself on innovation and craftsmanship.

"Winning the award was a real testament to the pioneering quality of our products and gives the brand superb endorsement – not only from industry experts but also from the general public – in a very competitive market."
