AN artist and men's ware seller have brought the ancient art of barter onto the high street.

George Toothill, who runs Jenson Samuel Shirts on Skipton High Street, has swapped several of his bespoke shirts for a painting by Silsden artist Fredrick N Fallowes - popularly known as Neal

The deal was struck following a mutual like of each other's wares - Neal for the uniquely designed shirts and George for Neal's painting of the 100 year-old shop front.

"I was inspired to paint the shop front because of it's special design. There are very few around like that nowadays. It made a really interesting image," said Neal.

"I called in on George and we did the deal. He agreed to me having some shirts and he got the painting,"

And George was more than chuffed at the swap. "I was very impressed. We moved here because I liked that design of the shop front - it fits our image."

He has been in the former Craven Herald book shop for about two-and-a-half years.

Neal's work - he specialises in painting animals - can be seen from Saturday, November 11, until Thursday, December 21, at a Craven Arts exhibition.
