100 years ago Improvements to Skipton High Street were met with mixed emotions. Strong opinions were voiced on the folly of the taking up of the setts fronting the town hall. To bring the town hall into unison with general improvement, it was necessary to raise the pavement by eight inches.

100 years ago Alex Keighley of High Hall, Steeton, gave a dramatic and musical recital at the church school in Steeton. Mr Keighley gave a fine rendering of Mr S Gilbert’s comedy Princess Ida and he fully maintained his reputation as an elocutionist.

Supt Arundel of Settle was engaged in making experiments with a view to deciding which would be the most useful breed of dog to assist police when on night duty and to track offenders.
