A former chief executive of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has been appointed as the new chairman of the Clapham-based Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
Steve Macaré, who was YDNPA chairman from 1999 to 2004, is taking over from Peter Charlesworth.
One of his most important engagements this year will be overseeing the planting of the trust’s millionth tree.
In his nine years as a trustee, Mr Macaré has seen the charity make significant improvements to the environment and communities of the Dales.
The trust has big plans for 2010 and its work will include hay meadow restoration, natural woodland planting, young apprenticeship schemes and “People and the Dales”, which promotes access to the countryside for all.
The trust also continues to manage several grants programmes on behalf of other organisations, dealing with hundreds of rural development projects and community initiatives throughout the Dales and beyond.
This year will also see the launch of the millennium trust’s new book ‘Hay Time in the Yorkshire Dales’ and hundreds of Flowers of the Dales Festival events.
Mr Macaré said “What makes the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust so successful is the support we receive from people everywhere who share our love of the Dales and want to keep this special place alive.
“I would like to thank all our supporters and urge everyone to keep giving.”
You can support the trust by making a donation, buying merchandise or dedicating a tree. Visit ydmt.org or call 015424 51004.
