The landscape of Littondale is gradually being restored to its former glory.
Arncliffe landowner Mike McKenzie, helped by dry-stone waller Roger Gibson, has spearheaded a major restoration programme, reinstating redundant walls. The project was launched 12 years ago and, so far, half a mile of wall has been restored.
The latest section, a 120m length in the valley bottom, took 22 days to complete.
“It had been in a bad state for a long while,” said Roger. “This is an ongoing project as the funding only allows us to complete about 100 metres a year. Dry-stone walls are jewels in the national park’s crown.”
