Organisations that seek to protect threatened natural habitats across Craven are being urged to apply for grants from a £10 million fund generated by landfill taxes.
The five-year Biodiversity Action Fund (BAF) aims to conserve and restore some of the UK’s most precious natural habitats and endangered species.
The fund was launched in 2009 by WREN, a not-for-profit business that awards grants to community projects across the UK on behalf of Waste Recycling Group (WRG).
Conservation bodies, community groups and charities are being encouraged to submit applications for grants to fund biodiversity projects costing between £75,000 and £250,000 before the January 31 deadline.
Peter Cox, managing director of WREN, said: “We’ve already seen the positive impact that our funding can have on wildlife and habitats, with over £5.8 million granted over the past three years. Many precious habitats lie near landfill sites and it’s right that funding generated by household rubbish is used to protect, restore and revive these areas for the future.”
