Field Studies Centre runs course on lichens (From Craven Herald)

Course at Malham Tarn run in conjunction with British Lichen Society

The Field Studies Centre at Malham Tarn is offering people a chance to learn about lichens on a special one-day course.

Run in association with the British Lichen Society, Introducing Lichens 1 will include field excursions, talks and identification skills.

Lichens are fascinating life forms which can be found in many types of habitat and the course on Saturday, February 25, aims to introduce some of the more common species to anyone who is keen to learn more.

It will be led by a member of the British Lichen Society with extensive knowledge and a passion for the subject.

Head of centre Mike Cawthorn said: “We ran this course for the first time last year and had a great attendance with really positive feedback.

“For those who enjoy this first day, or already have some knowledge of lichens, there will also be a follow-on course at the centre on March 31. The two courses are a unique opportunity for anybody, from those with no experience to people who already have an interest in lichens.”
