Eventful and exhausting

proud moment: Alexander wearing his first rosette

10:10am Saturday 31st July 2010

It has been an eventful week, with Alexander winning his first rosettes, Mrs Horse getting very cross and The Boss using his ingenuity when Steve’s car exhaust fell off.

Unseated... but unbowed

Ladies at the Yard are being treated to Steve’s “best” injury since last summer’s all-too-public groin strain. His right arm has gone a spectacular black colour after his double tumble from Alexander at Craven Country Ride.

Things go bump....twice

We should have guessed it would prove prophetic to praise Alexander, our new thoroughbred, as “almost too good to be true”.

Alexander is getting a coterie of admirers. A holidaymaker stopped Steve as he rode the chestnut thoroughbred down the lane last week. “What a beautiful horse,” he said.

Cute, not competitive

Adelphi Warrior was an unlikely exchange for Baby Horse after he landed his owner, Mark, in hospital. He recalls the tall chestnut thoroughbred rearing up – before he came round in the local infirmary.

It's goodbye to Baby

On Wednesday, Adelphi Warrior became ours. Steve drove to South Lakeland to confirm the swap for Baby Horse.

Work is resuming apace on the stables’ eagerly-awaited hot and cold horse showers. Ladies at the Yard were at first taken aback by The Boss’s choice of a vibrant “swimming baths blue” for the back wall. Some were heard to remark uncharitably that the paint “must have been going cheap”.

Thoroughbred splashes out

The Spring Bank Holiday Trail Ride had been going so well. But ex-racehorses can be sensitive souls and the happy activity at The Craven Splash unsettled Adelphi Warrior.

Welcome to an ex-racer

New arrival: Adelphi Warrior

Baby is trotting happily along the sea wall and pottering along leafy lanes at his new coastal home. But we never dreamed we might be swapping him for a racehorse!
