The Stirk House, Gisburn
10:59am Friday 28th March 2008
What an Easter weekend! Atrocious weather, gloomy financial forecasts - but our gloom was lifted by the arrival of a precious grand-daughter. Clearly this was a case for pushing out the boat, with a culinary treat to celebrate such an auspicious event.

Boars Head, Long Preston
10:27am Friday 21st March 2008
Having been confined to my bed or chair for 20 weeks following orthopaedic surgery, with only a periodic hospital visit by ambulance to relieve the monotony, I was really looking forward to a short trip out for lunch at the Boars Head, Long Preston, that has just been taken over by two local brothers, one of whom is a trained professional chef.

Skipton Balti
10:04am Friday 14th March 2008
One of my colleagues, who has recently left, was a huge fan of curry and in particular vindaloo, so for his leaving do we headed to Skipton Balti on a Friday night.

Hide Bar and Restaurant, Skipton
7:09pm Saturday 8th March 2008
In case you hadn't noticed - and I confess I hadn't - Skipton's Escape Bar and Restaurant has become the Hide Bar and Restaurant.

3 Millstones Inn, West Bradford
9:55am Friday 29th February 2008
Always on the lookout for a new venue to review, we had one recommended - the 3 Millstones Inn at West Bradford, just over the border in that other county tucked in the Ribble Valley, close to Chatburn.

Herriots, Skipton
9:50am Friday 22nd February 2008
A chance encounter with a couple we have known a long long time led to that rarity, an occasion when a resolution to eat and reminisce actually came to fruition. So we met up with, let's call them M & C, for dinner at Herriots in Skipton.

Black Bull Hotel, Rimington
10:24am Friday 15th February 2008
Craven may boast a high number of great eateries, but there's a district just over the Lancashire border that can surely lay an equal claim.

Jade Palace, Earby
9:11am Friday 8th February 2008
In the week leading up to doing this review I'd heard a lot about Jade Palace in Earby, all of it very good.

The Gamekeeper's Inn, Threshfield
9:26am Friday 1st February 2008
With the growing problems of obesity being daily front-page news, I have to confess that "the fuller figure" (ladies) or the increasing waist-line (gentlemen) is part of the Johnston family lore!

Mastab's, Skipton
9:36am Friday 25th January 2008
It doesn't seem that long since I reviewed Skipton's best-known Indian restaurant, The Aagrah. This week we decided to try Mastab's for a change, a much smaller and less high-profile establishment just round the corner on Keighley Road.
