Renowned bloodlines attracted a packed ringside of buyers to Gisburn auction Marts pedigree dairy sale last Thursday (19 June).

Sale leader was a Picston Shottle sired heifer, giving 32 litres and 14 days calved from Philip Critchley, Wrea Green, Preston which sold for £2700 to Doug Graves, Armathwaite, Carlisle. Next under the hammer were another two heifers from Mr Critchley, this time Huddleston Saruman and Schillview Oman Gerard sired which sold for £2400 and £2250.

Causing a great deal of pre-sale interest was Saltergate Miss America 19, again sired by Picston Shottle out of EX90 dam, giving 28 litres and 14 days calved from Ben Hardcastle & Sons, Killinghall, Harrogate with she sold for £2500 to Edward Fort, Silsden, Keighley.

Regular vendors in the money included Lee Donkin, Copster Green, Blackburn with a Bosside Altraross Et sired heifer, giving 31 litres and eleven days calved and James Rogerson, Poulton Le Fylde, with his Lynncrest Zebra which sold for £2100.

Non catalogue entries were just as easily sold with J & PA Baldwin & Sons, Brindle Chorley achieving £2480 for a newly calved heifer, not far behind was J Bland, Arnside, Silverdale with a pair of heifers which sold for £2400 & £2350. In Calf cattle also achieved premium prices with S Fairclough & Sons, Radcliffe, Greater Manchester selling at £2000 for a springing heifer.
