GISBURN farmer William Oldfield purchased the highest priced animal at Gisburn Auction Marts' dairy sale on Thursday.

He bought a 47-litre newly calved cow from James Rogerson, of Singleton, for £2,700.

Lee Donkin, of Copster Green, Blackburn, achieved £2,620 for a heifer, three weeks calved and giving 36 litres and taking her home was Doug Graves, of Carlisle.

A striking black heifer from Michael Fish, of Heap Bridge, Bury, sold for £2,450 to John Dodgson, Bank Newton, and the same purchaser went on to pick up a newly calved heifer, giving 30 litres, for £2,380 from Harry Raw, of Eastburn.

John Dugdale, of Stackhouse, sold his newly calved heifer giving 31 litres for £2,350 to Wilmot Blockley, of Tarvin, Chester who went on the purchase another quality heifer from Messrs Midgley, of Luddenden, at £2,120.
