THE annual show and sale of Mule shearlings, held at Bentham Auction Mart on Saturday, topped at £340 for the first prize pen of ten from Graeme Jackson of Bentham.
The winning animals sold to the judge, Stuart Hudson, of Derbyshire.
Ron and Fran Wilson, of Armathwaite, took second and fifth prize rosettes, their charges selling for £300 and £270 to Messrs Jenkinson, of Whinfell Park, who also bought third and fourth prize sheep from Frank Brennand, of Chapel le Dale, at £275 and Chris Hewitt, of Low Bentham, at £230.
Mule Shearlings averaged £147.84, up £3.09 on the year.
Dales Mule shearlings topped at £175 for Frank Brennand’s first prize pen to average £133.67.
First prize in the Masham shearlings was won by Rowland and Woodward Ltd. of Castleton, selling for £165 to judge David Wilson, of Harrogate. Mashams averaged £131.07, down £6.90 on the year.
