PUPILS at Grassington VC Primary School baked up a storm to help save gorillas in Africa.
The girls in year six baked cakes and sold them in school to raise a total of £141, which will go towards helping them 'adopt' a mountain gorilla in the Republic of the Congo in West Africa.
They decided to help after attending a 'cluster' event with other local schools at which they learned about the endangered animals and gave a fact-finding presentation on their plight.
Class teacher Eleanor Harrison said: "They came up with the idea of a cake sale to raise the money themselves and did an excellent baking job!"
Experts estimate there are fewer than 900 wild mountain gorillas left in four main areas of Africa, though they think there has been a slight increase in numbers over the last few years, thanks mainly to the relative success of conservation efforts.
