A SON of Yorkshire has returned to his homeland as new chef patron of a popular restaurant.

Travelling the world for 20 years to learn your trade may seem alien to most of us, but for talented young chefs determined to perfect their culinary art it is a fact of life.

Steeton-born Trevor Hambley, 41, has done just that, but now he is back home in Yorkshire and cannot wait to get cooking is his new position as chef patron at the multiple award-winning restaurant, Martha and Vincent in Ilkley.

Trevor started his fine dining career under the legendary Denis Watkins at The Angel Inn Hetton.

He then headed to London to do what most young chefs could only dream of – training with the iconic Marco Pierre White.

He then spent the next six years working with Pierre White, becoming junior sous chef at Mirabelle, sous chef at The Criterion Brasserie and head pastry chef at Drones.

He went on to work alongside celebrity TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli before moving up a gear into the high octane world of Formula 1, becoming head chef of Red Bull Racing, Honda F1 and the FIA, the governing body that controls the sport.

He said: "I’m delighted to be back in Yorkshire with the chance to combine the wealth of incredible local produce on my doorstep with the best of the other ingredients I have discovered on my travels.

"Martha and Vincent have won plenty of accolades but we won’t be resting on our laurels. Having spent over 20 years cooking to 2 and 3 AA Rosette standard I will be working hard to achieve that recognition for Ilkley."
