ROBIN Jennings, who runs the Stainbank pedigree dairy herd in South Stainley, emerged as champion at the early October Craven Dairy Auction show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart.
His title-winning newly calven heifer, four weeks calved and giving 31 litres, sold for £1,980 to judge and regular Skipton buyer, Wick Williams, of Nantwich.
Mr Jennings also claimed third prize with another pedigree newly calven heifer, calved 11 days and giving 30 litres, which sold for £1,860, again to Mr Williams.
Reserve championship honours went to multiple past champions the Lawson family, of Mill Farm, Arthington, with another pedigree newly calven heifer, calved three weeks and giving 28 litres, which rocketed to a day’s top price of £2,300 on joining Richard Sutcliffe in Queensbury.
Robert Crisp, of Calton, wasn’t far behind with a deep black newly calven heifer reaching £2,100, again going to Richard Sutcliffe.
JN and J Rennard, of Bolton Abbey, emerged as the first prize winners in the newly calven cows category, while WG Walmsley, of Bishop Thornton, Harrogate, took first, second and third prize in the in-calf heifers class.
Pedigree newly calven heifers averaged £1,912, their commercial counterparts £1,654, while newly calven cows averaged £1,450 and in-calf heifers £1,090.
