A BARNOLDSWICK primary school pupil finished runner-up in a Christmas card competition organised by Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson. Mr Stephenson said the standard of entries had been so high that he had had to hand out 21 prizes. A pupil from Laneshaw Bridge Primary won the competition and Leah Pearson, who attends St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Barnoldswick was one of two runners up. They will both receive £50 in high street vouchers. The winning designs were reproduced on the MP’s official Christmas card, which goes to thousands of people including local residents, councillors, government agencies and fellow MPs. Eighteen highly commended entries were selected, including Jack Robinson and Lauren Riley, of Gisburn Road Community Primary School in Barnoldswick, Maja Gajda, also of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and Jemima Apple Bretherton and Harvey Bolton, of Kelbrook Primary School. They received a certificate and a £10 book voucher. Mr Stephenson said: “The standard this year was very high, making it even more difficult to choose, and so I decided that I’d have to award more highly commended certificates than usual." The competition is sponsored by the Marsden Building Society.
