THURSDAY saw more than 1,200 animals forward at Gisburn Auction Marts' weekly sale.

The sale proceedings started with Cogent Breeding pedigree dairy show and sale.

Colin Singleton, of Goosnargh, took the champion rosette for the second month running with a smart black heifer, three weeks calved and giving 34 litres. She sold at £2,100 to David Talbot, of Ribchester.

The same purchaser went on to pickup a ten-days calved heifer, giving 30 litres, from WA and A Booth, Feizor.

Next lot under the hammer, was from the same vendor, this time a one-week calved heifer, giving 31 litres, which sold for £2,120 to Michael Kenyon, of Chipping.

James and Anne Rogerson, of Singleton, sold a heifer for £2,220 to WE and O Blockley, Chester.

Paul Baines, of Trawden, achieved a very impressive 309p/kg for his British Blue prime heifer, which weighed 418kgs and sold to Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston.

In the prime bulls section, the top price per kilo price was 227p/kg from Charlie Thomas, of Rossendale, with the animal selling to Pearson Wholesale Butchers, Bradford, while Les Elkin, of Stoke on Trent, achieved the top sale price of £1,652 when also selling to Pearson Wholesale Butchers.

In the cull cattle section John Lancaster, of Leyburn, sold a British Blue cast cow for 200p/kg or £1,648 to Owain Llyr, of Ruthin, and Richard Lucas, of Blackburn, achieved £1,248 for Holstein Friesian cow.

Procters Farms Ltd, of Slaidburn, topped the sheep section in both prime hogg and cull categories, first with their prime Beltex hoggs, weighing 48kgs which sold for £121 to B and T Kitson, of Yarm, and again with their Beltex cast ewes, which achieved £154.
