ON TUESDAY, March 17, the Earby Astronomical Society will be at Earby Football Ground, Hill Top Lane, Earby, between 7pm and 8.30pm. Using telescopes, people will, clouds permitting, be able to view Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system.

There will also be tours of the night sky showing people where to find the Plough and North Star together with Orion and the other bright stars on display in March.

The evening is planned to coincide with the BBC Stargazing Live programme due to be broadcast between March 18 and 20.

There will also be people on hand advising how to observe the partial eclipse of the Sun on Friday, March 20.

The event is free but people are advised to wear warm clothes and bring a flask, as the weather can be cool during March evenings.
