TWO years after the plans for a £6.3 million emergency department at Steeton's Airedale Hospital were first revealed, the new unit was officially opened by world champion triathlete Jonny Brownlee.
And last week's ceremony also celebrated the hospital's success in raising £100,000 to enhance the ultra-modern department, with such things as distraction walls, an interactive floor for the children’s waiting area, "sky ceilings", equipment and facilities to help patients with dementia and cardiac monitors for the general assessment areas.
A group of at least 25 staff, sponsors, hospital bosses and other guests gathered to watch Mr Brownlee.
