BUSINESSES in Craven such as The Traddock at Austwick, Kilnsey Park, Nethergill Farm in Langstrothdale and Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway are all backing a summer-long tourism campaign aimed at encouraging visitors to linger longer and discover more of the delights to be found within the Dales.

The campaign centres on a treasure hunt organised by voluntary organisation The Dales Tourism Network in association with the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Visitors pick up one of four different postcards that are available from visitor information centres, attractions and local businesses.

Each postcard has four different sets of clues. Visitors are then invited to enter their answers to the clues online at www.dalesdiscoveries.com before September 10 for the chance to win one of 50 prizes.

These include a woodland animal-making course in Strid Wood, Bolton Abbey, run by Flying Shavings, dinner and overnight stay at The Traddock or a navigation skills day with Settle’s Yorkshire Dales Guides.

Susan Briggs, director of the Dales Tourism Network says: “The treasure hunt is aimed at opening people’s eyes to the fantastic variety of places in the Dales where they can simply leave behind their normal hectic lives, recharge, have fun, and get in touch with their inner child.

“Dales folk are already experts at enjoying life and we’ve drawn upon their insider knowledge to compile the clues. We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the businesses across the region and they have really come up trumps with some great prizes that underline the spirit of the campaign."
