A SETTLE garden centre's café is one of first Dales businesses to stock a new Yorkshire coffee.

Lay of the Land, on Kings Mill Lane, has become the first stockist of new Casa Espresso hand-roasted coffee in the Yorkshire Dales.

The garden centre has worked with Yorkshire coffee specialist Casa Espresso since the Settle firm's café opened in March.

Casa Espresso has supplied the café with former UK Barista championship machine Sanremo Verona TCS and grinder and also supplies hand-roasted Ethiopia espresso beans and loose tea from the Brew Tea Co.

Casa Espresso owner Nino Di Rienzo recently invested in a five-kilogram roaster to enable him to offer high quality, bespoke coffees in small batches and remain at the forefront of the coffee industry in Yorkshire.

The coffee is hand roasted to order twice a week at the company’s Shipley headquarters, which allows Nino and his colleague, roaster and barista trainer Jonnie Drake, to pull out and refine flavours to the customers’ taste or requirement.

Nino, whose family has been involved in the restaurant and coffee scene for more than 40 years, said: “Supplying excellent products has always been our main priority, and we’re pleased that Yorkshire businesses such as Lay of the Land are choosing to stock local products.

“We started with a smaller roaster and our coffees were really well received so we have now invested in a much larger roaster to enable us to meet demand.

"Traceability is important to both us and our customers – we can track our coffee back to the individual farmer and village – and we source ethical green coffee that supports sustainable development of coffee agriculture.”

Casa Espresso, which also provides specialist barista training, officially launched its new roasting business at an event which included a ‘cupping’ demonstration and tutorial on the Sanremo Opera espresso machine.
