WE can reveal that last week’s mystery object was an antique metal Vesta table matchstick box.
And congratulations go to reader David Heather, of Settle, who made a correct guess.
Experts from Craven Museum and Gallery tell us: "The top of the box has a moving bird shaped object and is in good condition.
"The exact date of the item is unknown, but is likely to be from the late Victorian period. Such boxes were common in households across the country such as the Craven area.
"Matchstick holders were used for discarded cigarettes and prevented matchsticks from rubbing together. By the 1930s, however, such boxes were replaced with cigarette holders and matchbooks.
"Novelty items such as this are highly sought after amongst collectors, especially as certain holders carried advertising for famous companies and to possess one was a sign of social mobility."
All Craven Curiosities can be viewed in Craven Museum, which is located in Skipton Town Hall.
Meanwhile we are inviting guesses on this week's mystery object. Suggestions should be email to news@cravenherald.co.uk
