LAST week's Craven Curiosity continued the recent food theme.
It was, in fact, a Victorian pastry cutter and marker, not dissimilar to those used today.
Among those making correct guesses were Brenda Wood, Janet Payn, Keith Landless, Sylvia Merrett, Syd Smith, Walter Umpleby, Elizabeth Staig, Geoff Hanson, Samuel Moore, Marlene Singleton, Jean Maddison and Maureen Batty.
Experts from Craven Museum and Gallery tell us: "This pastry cutter was used for food preparation and had a crimped wheel and a curved crimping at the top of the handle.
"These objects were a common occurrence in kitchens in households across the country including Craven.
"Pastry cutters such as this were used to cut the edge of the pastry and the marker was used for impressing a design into the pastry.
All items featured in this column can be viewed at the museum, which is run by Craven District Council and is in Skipton Town Hall. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, as well as the first Sunday of every month from May to September and Bank Holiday Mondays.
Meanwhile we are inviting guesses about this week’s mystery object. Suggestions can be emailed to news@cravenherald.co.uk, to arrive no later than noon on Monday.
