SEVERAL readers tried to identify last week's Craven Curiosities.

And, while most guessed they were some sort of tools, no-one managed to highlight their actual use.

The tools were, in fact, an antique clock repair kit.

They have mahogany handles with a diamond cross pattern. There are brass metal fittings in an octagonal shape on the side, which pull away to reveal a key and screwdriver. The length of the screwdriver is 120mm.

Readers David Heather and Sam Moore suggested they were leather-working tools, Brenda Wood thought they were boring tools, Cath Cooney said they were screwdrivers and Jonathan Mosley guessed they were old woodcraft or carving tools.

All items featured in this column can be viewed at the museum, which is run by Craven District Council and is in Skipton Town Hall. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10am and 4pm

Meanwhile, we are inviting guesses about this week’s mystery object. Suggestions can be emailed to news@cravenherald.co.uk, to arrive no later than noon on Monday.
