IT has been another bumper week for correct guesses to our Craven Curiosities.

Robert Hall, Elizabeth Mitton, Jonathan Mosley, Michael Lindsay and Anna Hewlett all identified that last week's mystery object was pendulum from a clock.

Experts from Craven Museum and Gallery tell us: "In this instance, the pendulum belonged to a clock.

"The pendulum swings from side to side. The swinging motion allows the movement of a lever. This unlocks the clock mechanism which is controlled by the movement of a falling weight. This creates the tick-tock sound.

"Pendulum clocks were invented in 1656 by Christiaan Huygens and were widely used until the 1930s. They were the standard method of timekeeping as their accuracy suited the faster pace of life which came with the industrial revolution."

All items featured in this column can be viewed at the Craven District Council-run museum which is located at Skipton Town Hall. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm

Meanwhile, we are inviting guesses about this week’s mystery object. Suggestions can be emailed to news@cravenherald.co.uk, to arrive no later than noon on Monday.
