GISBURN Auction Mart staged its anniversary sales, judged by Jenny Dale, of Howden.

The cattle champion was a British Blue heifer from T Robinson and Son, of Slaidburn, which sold for £1,140 to Richard Critchley.

There was increased throughput, with good trade to match.

A two-year-old British Blue stock bull from Gary Whalley sold for £2,250 to David Capstick while a Limousin cow with bull calf from Andrew Naylor made £1,460 when selling to Ben Townsend.

Thomas Robinson sold a Limousin young bull for £940 to Stephen Eastwood and David Capstick’s first prize Limousin steer was picked up for £1,070 by Robert Middleton.

The champion pen of hoggs went to the first prizewinners in the continental hoggs with lambs class from R Seed and Son of Chipping, which sold at £160 per head to the judge Raymond Heigh.

The Seed family went on to win a second prize in the continental class while the third prize went to D and SJ Pinder, of Newton in Bowland, who sold at £154 to Messrs Spence.

Reserve champion pen of hoggs went to RG Johnson and Son, of Felliscliffe, for their first prizewinning mule hoggs. The five hoggs, with single Texel lambs, sold for £170 to Messrs Smith who also purchased for the Johnsons' second prizewinning pen of Mules.

Third prize went to A Caton, of Otterburn, whose hoggs sold at £152 to J Thwaite.
