ANTICIPATION is high for this Sunday’s annual Christmas prime shows of cattle, lambs and pigs at Skipton Auction Mart, the highlight of the entire primestock year at the North Yorkshire venue.
Top breeders will be out to demonstrate their mettle in the show arena, while leading retail butchers and meat wholesalers will be competing fiercely to snap up the cream of the region’s primestock for their customers’ Christmas tables.
A prime lamb carcase completion, plus the annual Great Northern Pork Pie Contest, again feature on an action-packed day-long programme, which also incorporates a strong charity element.
Judging begins at 11.00am and sales from 12.45, with charity auctions due to start from 4pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend, with catering and a licensed bar in place as usual.
