Students from Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton attended a dedication service in Ypres, Belgium, in memory of 55 former pupils and staff who gave their life in the First World War.

A brass plaque bearing the name and coat of arms of Ermysted's was dedicated at the service, which was held at St George's Church. It was led by the Rev Roy Jones and witnessed by 40 year 10 pupils and four members of staff.

Students Alastair Sinclair and Robert Skilleter read out the names of the 55 old boys and masters who died, 15 of whom lost their lives within the Ypres Salient battlefield.

The Anglican St George's Church was built after the war for British people connected with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Subsequently, it has become a focal point for many British visitors and over the years has gathered many memorials to individuals, regiments and schools. Old boys, students and friends of Ermysted's can now proudly honour its men at the memorial site.

The plaque was organised by Ermysted's head of history, Steven Howarth, and funded by the sales of his book "A Grammar School at War - Ermysted's During the Great War".

Each year, a party from Ermysted's visits the First World War battlefields, spending a day on the Somme and another at Ypres.
