Now in its seventh year, RamJam is gearing up for its annual concert at Settle’s Victoria Hall on Saturday.

RamJam comprises young musicians, aged from eight to 17, who come together to play jazz and world music under the leadership of musical director and multi-instrumentalist Richard Ormrod.

For the annual concert, the musicians will be joined by their “big brother” Dales Jam, which was founded in 2003 and is for players of all ages.

In all, more than 40 musicians are expected to take to the stage to play music from South Africa, Trinidad, Cuba and Nigeria as well as American and British jazz.

All the tunes have been arranged by Mr Ormrod.

The music initiative recently impressed regional jazz educators at a conference seminar in Leeds.

“This testimonial from Jazz North is a very welcome recognition of the high-quality, inclusive musical provision that has quietly been going on in Craven for over ten years,” said Mr Ormrod.

“Last year RamJam took part in a region-wide project to create music for silent movies from the Yorkshire Film Archive, and I am planning to begin another RamJam project at the Victoria Hall in September – so if you’re under 20, bring your instruments!”

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are available from the Victoria Hall box office on (01729) 825718 and cost £8 for adults and £5 for children.
