Hidden behind a stone wall in the picturesque village of Arncliffe lies an unexpected surprise.

It is Prospect House Gallery – an oak framed contemporary building – housing the work of one of Craven’s best-loved artists Kitty North.

Designed by York-based architect Chris Walker and built by local builder Keith Blades, the gallery is a light and airy space, showcasing Kitty’s vibrant artwork.

It is currently open by appointment, but there will be plenty of opportunities to call in over the summer.

Kitty is taking part in the North Yorkshire Open Studio event over the weekends of June 7 and 8 and June 14 and 15 and, on each afternoon, she will give a painting demonstration on the village green if the Yorkshire climate allows and, if not, in the gallery itself.

And Kitty will feature in this year’s Grassington Festival programme with an open day on Thursday, June 26, again with a painting demonstration scheduled for between 2pm and 4pm.

“I am very excited to be part of the Grassington Festival programme,” she said. “Each year the festival gets bigger and better, attracting artists of the highest quality to this beautiful area of Yorkshire. I am very much looking forward to supporting the festival and working with its incredibly dedicated team of volunteers.”

Meanwhile, Kitty can often be seen painting at Bolton Priory and her paintings are currently on show at the village’s Devonshire Brasserie and at the Devonshire Fell at Burnsall.

Swan Mead Gallery in London also showcases Kitty’s artwork and a large exhibition is planned for 2015.
