Two writers with libraries of published books and prizes will launch the 2014 Settle Sessions.
Held at The Folly, Settle, the poetry sessions include an open mic slot where local writers and poets can present their own work.
“As well as big names on the bill, Settle Sessions has discovered a lot of local literary talent and we’re delighted to be able to give people a chance to present their work to new audiences,” said Jean Harrison, one of the organisers.
Taking to the stage next Friday, April 25, will be Sue Vickerman, who used to live in Settle before moving to an old mill in Bradford. She has published several collections of poetry and a novel and writes with “a dry northern sense of humour”, drawing inspiration from her work as a life mode.
The other featured writer is Jennifer Copley, who lives in Barrow-in-Furness and was South Cumbria’s Poet Laureate in 2005. She has published several full-length collections and pamphlets and her work has been described as charming, sensuous and disturbing.
A new membership scheme this year includes reduced rates at the events. Tickets, which are limited due to space, are £6 (£5.50 members) and are available from Cave and Crag and The Folly. Ring 01729 823305 or 824537.
