SKIPTON: With just a day to go before the Grand Depart comes to Skipton, Craven Museum and Gallery has launched its summer exhibition, Bikes, Legs, Action!

It is designed to highlight the ins and outs of cycling.

The museum is located in Skipton Town Hall and the exhibition runs until September 20.

lThe latest concert in the Skipton Camerata chamber music series will take place on Wednesday.

The featured work will be Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata in G, which will be performed at Skipton Girls’ High School at 7.30pm. Admission is £6.

lTo celebrate the Tour de France passing through Skipton, the town’s Mill Bridge Gallery is hosting an exhibition of photographs and sculptural work celebrating both the sport and the Dales countryside.

The exhibition will continue throughout July.

lSkipton Ladies Choir is busy preparing for its summer concert.

The choir – which tackles a broad range of musical styles from different eras under director Glyn Evans – will perform at Skipton Baptist Church next Friday, July 11 at 7.30pm.

Admission is £8 for adults and £6 for concessions.

lIron Music Country Music Club will hold an event in Skipton next weekend.

The duo, Best of Friends, will perform in the Clifford Suite of the Black Horse, next Saturday, July 12.

The evening, which runs from 7.30pm to 11.30pm, will feature country music with line dancing and country partner dancing.

SETTLE: Joe Longthorne – described as one of the UK’s most talented entertainers – will entertain at Victoria Hall tonight.

He will perform his acclaimed Up Close & Personal show, which combines his life story with classic songs.

His friend, singer, songwriter, biographer and journalist Chris Berry, will appear as support act.

The Ribblesdale Area Moving Picture Show (TRAMPS) will screen Never Let Me Go at Victoria Hall on Monday, July 14.

Tickets cost £5 and doors open at 7.15pm with the screening starting at 7.45pm.

The film is based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2005 novel and is a coming of age story set in an alternative history.

lThe Folly is staging a new exhibition, War Beckons, which focuses on the early stages of the war and the effects it had on the district.

Visitors can learn about the recruitment of volunteers and the commandeering of local horses following the outbreak of war, as well some of the lesser-known stories, such as the Belgian refugees who were brought to Settle and the efforts of local people to raise money and support the troops.

And running alongside it is another exhibition, Journeys Through a Family Archive, which explores the story of the Riley family and their many involvements in the life of Settle and district over nearly 100 years.

Both exhibitions run until November 2.

lThere is still chance to view the work of Settle artist Sam Dalby which is being showcased at Linton Court Gallery.

Although highly regarded as a portrait painter, Sam is exhibiting a range of still life oil paintings, many of which have not been seen before.

The exhibition, Still life, Portraits, Life Drawing, runs until Saturday.

The gallery is also holding a smaller exhibition of Tina Balmer’s bright and colourful paintings.

lPhotographer Simon Whalley is exhibiting photographs from his Spirit of the Line book at the Gallery on the Green.

The exhibition - which celebrates the 25th anniversary of the saving of the Settle-Carlisle Railway Line - explores how the line fits into the countryside and whether people can live in harmony with the landscape.

It will run until August 30.

lSettle Music will hold one of its popular guitar sessions next Friday, July 11.

It will take place at Settle Primary School from 7pm to 9pm and the cost is £5.

BRADLEY: A charity concert will be staged at the Methodist Church next Saturday, July 12.

It will feature local artistes, including saxophonist James Lacy and will start at 6.30pm.

Tickets will be on sale in the village shop at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children over two. Proceeds will be divided between Cancer Research, in memory of Vera Holt of Bradley, and a children’s orphanage in Rwanda.

lThe local film club will screen Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit on Tuesday.

The film - certificate U - will be shown at 6pm in the school hall.

GLUSBURN: Glusburn Institute’s next film offering has a Tour de France theme.

It will show the film, The Flying Scotsman, based on the life and career of Scottish champion cyclist Graeme Obree tomorrow.

The film will be screened at 7pm, and admission is £5 for adults and £3.50 for concessions.

HELLIFIELD: A Tour de France celebration will be held at the institute tomorrow night.

There will be live music from The Variations, plus Mik’s Euro Disco, and tickets are £7.50, which includes a continental supper. Admission is limited to over 18s only.

MALHAM: Langcliffe Singers will give an informal concert in the village institute next Saturday, July 12.

They will perform a programme of English and Italian madrigals and part-songs to an audience of mainly family and friends.

The concert starts at 7.30pm RIBBLEHEAD: The Settle-Carlisle Railway’s artist in residence Sarah Hutton will set up a pop-up studio at Ribblehad Station on Sunday.

Running from 11am to 4pm, Sarah will invite people to join her as she explores the local area and to draw whatever catches their imagination.
