SKIPTON: Youngsters from GTS Performing Arts - formerly known as Glusburn Theatre School - are staging a new version of the popular musical, The Sound of Music.

The theatre company - which performed carols and other songs at the Skipton lights switch-on - will present its show from tonight until Saturday, with curtains up at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for concessions and are available from Skipton Tourist Information Centre or call 01274 815524 or 07947 185144.

The classic film, It's A Wonderful Life, will be shown at the Plaza Cinema, on Sunday.

The film, which was nominated for five Oscars, stars James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore and tells the tale of a small-town philanthropist whose loan company has gone bust. He is saved from suicide by an elderly angel, who shows him what a hell-hole his home town would have been without him.

"It's the perfect film for Christmas," says Plaza proprietor Charles Morris.

The screening starts at 1.30pm and homemade mince pies will be available.

There will be another showing at the Picture House, Keighley, on Christmas Eve at 5pm.

The Beer House Boys will perform at the Three Links Club on New Year's Eve from 8pm.

This event is open to all and there will be a tot of whisky and a mince pie at midnight to toast the New Year. For more information, call the office on 01756 798022.

SETTLE: Victoria Hall will host its traditional pre-Christmas pantomime on Sunday.

Pendle Productions will stage its version of Dick Whittington - with plenty of audience participation.

Doors open at 1.45pm, with the show starting at 2.30pm, and tickets cost £8 for adults, £6 for children and £20 for families (one adult and three children or two adults and two children).

The Three Kings have returned to Settle.

And they are happily ensconced at the town's Gallery on the Green, housed in a former phone box.

The tableau - first seen in 2011 and created by Settle Flagmakers - has been brought back by popular demand.

It will remain in place until January 17.

It will take place at Settle Social Club on Saturday.

There is still chance to catch Linton Court Gallery's winter exhibition, A Moveable Feast, before it goes on tour.

It features paintings, drawings, original prints, sculptures and ceramics.

It will be on show at the gallery until Saturday and it will then move to Pendle Heritage Centre, Barrowford, where it can be seen throughout January and February.

BARNOLDSWICK: Rolls Royce Leisure Club will host a Northern Soul Christmas Special next Saturday, December 27, from 8pm to 1am, featuring special guest DJ Ginger Taylor and DJ Roman.

Admission is £5.

BENTHAM: Rock ‘n’ roll band Blue Suede Dudes will be in action at Hoggs And Heifer, on Saturday, December 27.

Musicians Dale Kitson, Lee Kitson and Roger Kirby will perform rocked-up covers of rock 'n' roll classics, including three-way harmonies, by the likes of Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, The Beatles and Jerry Lee Lewis.

CONISTON COLD: Giggleswick and Settle Brass Band will play at a carol service at St Peter's Church on Sunday from 7pm.

It will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies at the village hall.

GARGRAVE: Gargrave and Malhamdale Community Library will show the classic film, White Christmas, in the village hall tomorrow.

The doors open at 7pm, with the film starting at 7.30pm. Admission is £5 on the door.

GRASSINGTON: The Grassington Festival box office will be open until tomorrow to buy tickets for the main headline acts at the 2015 music and arts festival.

They include a Last Night of the Proms extravaganza, with Skipton Building Society Camerata on Wednesday, June 24, an evening with poet and entertainer Pam Ayres on Thursday, June 25, and music from contemporary folk band Bellowhead on Friday, June 26.

And the festival will conclude on Saturday, June 27, with a Last Night Party featuring Roland Gift from Fine Young Cannibals and special guests Heaven 17.

The full line-up will be announced in the spring.

Seven-year-old Iuan needs specialist surgery for a benign brain tumour, which can only be provided the USA.
