MORE than 300 primary schoolchildren will be treated to a brass band concert on Tuesday afternoon.

The youngsters, aged from nine to 11, have been invited to the annual schools concert staged by Skipton Music.

And this year’s event will take place in the town’s Christ Church and will feature Kensington Brass – a versatile dectet formed by ten students at the Royal College of Music in December 2011.

There will also be an evening concert for Skipton Music members and the general public.

The band includes Skipton trumpeter Adam Stockbridge, who was a student at Ermysted’s Grammar School before going to the music college.

He first started playing cornet at the age of eight and, three years later, gained places in both the National Children’s Orchestra and the National Children’s Brass Band. He went on to become the principal cornet in the National Children’s Brass Band and toured China with the National Children’s Orchestra.

Adam also spent six years at Chetham’s School of Music, studying trumpet with John Dickinson and Murray Greig and, after joining the National Youth Orchestra, performed in many countries. He spent five years in the NYO and was joint principal trumpet in his final year.

Kensington Brass has a repertoire of all genres, from Baroque and Renaissance to jazz and film music, and, in 2013, reached the final of the Royal Overseas League ensemble. It also won the Royal College of Music Brass Ensemble Competition in both 2012 and 2013.
