SKIPTON: London-based cello octet Cellophony will entertain at the next Skipton Music concert on Tuesday.

The musicians have rapidly established themselves as the UK’s leading cello ensemble, carving a reputation as accomplished exponents of both the standard cello ensemble repertoire and a diverse array of specially commissioned arrangements and adaptations.

For the Skipton concert, the octet - finalists of the Royal Over-Seas League chamber music competition - will play works by Bach, Schubert, Wagner and Barber as well as folk songs from around the world.

The concert will take place in Christ Church, Skipton, at 7.30pm and tickets are available from 01756 799912.

lIron Horse Country Music Club will host a country music evening on Saturday.

Award-winning vocalist Nancy Ann Lee will perform in the Clifford Suite of the Black Horse Hotel.

She will be on stage at 8.30pm and entry costs £5. Both listeners and dancers are welcome.

lVocalist Sam Reece will entertain at the White Rose Club on Saturday from 8.30pm.

There is free admission and there will also be bingo and a raffle.

lA new work by photographic artist Daniel Shiel is on show at the Mill Bridge Gallery.

Skiptonia with Starlings is a photo-collage made from more than 300 images taken in and around the town of Skipton.

It will run until the end of February.

lThe Singing for Fun group for people living with dementia or Parkinson’s disease will meet at Skipton Baptist Church on Tuesday from 2pm.

SETTLE: Tim Labrum will return to Victoria Hall tonight.

Following on from his talk about Antarctica last year, he will take the audience Around The World in 80 Images.

The journey will go through a number of countries, going off the beaten track as much as possible in an attempt to convey the beauty of those parts of the world not yet changed by mass tourism.

Doors open at 6.45pm and proceeds will be split between Victoria Hall and other local charities.

lThe Ribblesdale Area Moving Picture Show will conduct its next film showing at Victoria Hall on Wednesday, February 25, at 7.45pm.

The film is Avant L’hiver - a French mystery story with English subtitles- and admission is £5.

lSettle College art students are exhibiting their work at the town’s Gallery on the Green.

This is the second time that pupils have shown their work in the converted phone box and the current exhibition has the theme, Fauvism in the Dales.

The students have adopted a range of different techniques to recreate the use of energetic and intense colours seen in the art works of Fauvist artists such as Van Gogh, Gauguin and Seurat.

The exhibition will run until March 1.

lSettle Music will hold one of its popular guitar sessions tomorrow.

It will take place at Settle Primary School from 7pm to 9pm and the cost is £5.

BARNOLDSWICK: A one-woman play will be performed at the Rainhall Centre next week.

The Fossil Lady of Lyme, written and performed by Alison Neil, will be staged nexr Friday, February 20, at 7pm.

In the play, Mary Anning tells the fascinating story of her pioneering geology work and of “the fine clever men of science” who took most of the credit for her work.

lRolls-Royce Leisure will host a Big Soul Night on Saturday, February 28.

Resident DJ Roman and guest DJs will spin records from 8pm and 1am.

CONONLEY: A Northern Soul evening will be staged at the village institute on Saturday, February 28.

The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets, costing £10, are available from Cononley Post Office.

All proceeds will go towards the upkeep and running of the institute.

EMBSAY: The romantic comedy, The Love Punch, will be screened at the February Film Night in the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

It stars Emma Thompson, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Spall and Celia Imrie and sees a divorced couple join forces to track down a shady business man who has embezzled their retirement pension.

Admission is £4, which includes tea and biscuits.

GIGGLESWICK: Ian McMillan, Yorkshire’s favourite poet, broadcaster and comedian, is bringing a one-off, improvised show to the Richard Whiteley Theatre later this month.

Accompanied by Tony Husband, named Cartoonist of the Year, Ian and the audience will create a poem inspired by the area and imaginary tales of the railway.

The Cartoon History of Here has been organised by the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company.

The show works by the audience providing ideas, which Ian - known as the Bard of Barnsley - turns into a poem and Tony illustrates with hilarious cartoons.

The performance will take place on Friday, February 27, at 7.30pm and is suitable for all ages.
