THE South Craven-based KVU Singers will give their spring concert at Christ Church, Skipton, next Saturday, March 21.

The mixed choir - which rehearses at South Craven Baptist Church in Sutton-in-Craven - will relive some of the highlights of 2014.

Under the baton of Frank Smith, the singers will perform Alexander L’Estrange's Song Cycle: Vive la Vélorution, which was composed for last year's Grand Départ of the Tour de France which passed through Craven.

The composition was given its world premiere at York Minster last July and the KVU Singers were one of the choirs from along the route to take part in the event.

For the Skipton concert, it will present excerpts, accompanied by Robert Sudall and his Jazz Trio, featuring a mixture of styles from barbershop to Victorian music hall.

Also on the programme are three works from the Young Composer Competition, held in memory of Jessica Foxley, who grew up in Cowling and was killed in a car crash at the age of 21.

Her parents, Paul and Margaret, were both members of KVU Singers and the choir was asked to perform the shortlisted entries at last year's finals in Colne.

The three to be given another airing are Blue Roses by Douglas McIntosh from Stafford, A Dream within a Dream by Sarah Loughridge, of Ballymena and A Single Blade of Grass by Samuel Wilson, of London.

The Skipton programme also includes Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, which was composed in the late 1880s and is a setting of the Catholic Mass for the Dead.

Again the choir will be accompanied by organist Robert Sudall, who has performed with choral societies across Yorkshire.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and entry is free with donations invited. Tickets will be available on the door or from choir members.
