MUSIC from around the world will be brought to the stage at Settle's Victoria Hall by two local orchestras.

The 20-piece RAMjam Youth Music Orchestra will join forces with its "big brother" the 30-piece Dales Jam World Community Orchestra for the concert on Saturday.

And they will be joined by special guest, Argentinian guitarist and vocalist Guillermo Rozenthuler.

Both orchestras are led by musical director Richard Ormrod, who was named musician of the year at the Jazz Yorkshire Awards in 2012.

He said: "They have been learning about Latin and South American music and this concert will feature music from Cuba, Brazil (North and South, popular and classical), Argentina and Venezuela as well

as an eclectic selection of World Jazz and African music.

"It is guaranteed to be a unique and inspiring concert of world sounds, played by local musicians aged seven to 70!"

Dales Jam was formed in 2003 by a group of people of all ages and musical abilities who wanted to meet up and play music.

Since then, under the guidance of Mr Ormrod, the band has grown in numbers and meets at Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton every Monday night.

As a community jazz band, it is open to all, with no age restriction and all musical abilities are catered for.

RAM Jam (Ribblesdale Area Musicians) is also an open access community jazz ensemble, but it is aimed at young people aged from seven to 19, who meet every week at Settle's Victoria Hall.

The youngsters have the chance to devise, improvise and perform new works, with a particular emphasis on jazz and world music.

The project has been running for several years and is currently financed through NYMAZ’s Musical Inclusion programme for North Yorkshire (funded by the National Foundation for Youth Music).

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets costing £8 for adults and free for under 18s are available from settlevictoriahall.org.uk or call 01729 825718.
