SKIPTON: The South Craven-based KVU Singers will give their spring concert at Christ Church on Saturday.

The mixed choir - which rehearses at South Craven Baptist Church in Sutton-in-Craven - will relive some of the highlights of 2014.

The singers will perform Alexander L’Estrange’s Song Cycle: Vive la Vélorution, which was composed for last year’s Grand Départ of the Tour de France, and three works from the Jessica Foxley Young Composer Competition.

They are Blue Roses by Douglas McIntosh from Stafford, A Dream within a Dream by Sarah Loughridge, of Ballymena and A Single Blade of Grass by Samuel Wilson, of London.

The programme also includes Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, which was composed in the late 1880s and is a setting of the Catholic Mass for the Dead.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and entry is free with donations invited. Tickets will be available on the door or from choir members. And, the following day, the Rectory Lane club will host a Country and Western afternoon with Amy Morgan from 1pm.

SETTLE: The Gallery on the Green - housed in a former telephone kiosk - is hosting the first exhibition of work by local digital artist Debra Kelday.

She tries to capture the atmosphere, feeling and emotions of her subjects - whether they are landscapes, people or objects - and expresses this in colour, light, texture and shade, as well as by pure creative imagination.

Debra has always had an artistic drive and now through her love of photography, her grasp of digital techniques and her passion for art, she is able to find an outlet for this artistic urge.

The exhibition will run until April 11.

The club meets at Settle Social Club from 9pm and admission is £6. All are welcome.

CONONLEY: Cononley Singers will lead readings and music for Palm Sunday on March 28 at 3pm to which all are welcome. No tickets are required.

COWLING: Airedale Male Voice Choir will be in action at Cowling Village Hall on Saturday.

The singers - under their conductor John Smith of Steeton - will perform a varied programme, ranging from opera to hymns.

The concert will start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5.

CROSS HILLS: Classic rock ‘n’ roll will be on offer at Cross Hills Social Club next weekend.

Blue Suede Dudes will perform songs by the likes of Buddy Holly, Bill Haley and Jerry Lee Lewis next Saturday, March 28.

EMBSAY: Embsay-with-Eastby Pre-School Playgroup will host a fundraising live music night in the village hall on Saturday.

Oh What A Night will feature Rebecca Joy and the Badger Catapult Cabaret.

Pre-booked tickets are £7.50 each or admission is £8 at the door and the price includes supper.

Advanced tickets are available from the Paper Shop on Shires Lane or from the Preschool in the village hall today and tomorrow between 9am and 3pm.

GIGGLESWICK: Settle Orchestra will present the first of two spring concerts at the Richard Whiteley Theatre on Saturday.

The programme will include two works by Mozart - the Overture to the Magic Flute and Symphony No 40 - and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1.

For the latter piece, the orchestra will be joined by pianist Philip Sharp, a prizewinner at the EPTA UK Piano Competition and runner-up at the Rome International Piano Competition 2011.

The concert will be repeated at Skipton’s Ermysted’s Grammar School next Saturday, March 28.

GLUSBURN: Glusburn Institute will host a film night next Friday, March 27.

It will show Believe, which is set in 1984 and is inspired by true events.

It tells the story of a young, gifted football player who gets into trouble for a petty crime and is brought to the attention of former Manchester United coach Matt Busby, who comes out of retirement to help the boy and his team-mates.

The screening starts at 7pm and admission on the door is £5 for adults and £3.50 for concessions.

LANGCLIFFE: Musical duo howdenjones will bring their No Halls Barred Tour to Langcliffe Village Institute next Friday, March 27.

Kate Howden and Paul Jones are songwriters who have spent the past four years travelling all over the country, sharing their music and stories.

They write about life, with poignant, sometimes humorous, observations.

TOSSIDE: The Grand Choir from Clitheroe will give its first performance in the village on Sunday.

The choir - which was formed five years ago and has built up a good reputation - will perform in the community hall at 2.30pm.

The mixed choir rehearses in the main auditorium of The Grand - Clitheroe’s premier music venue - and its repertoire encompasses various genres of music. It is currently looking for new members of all ages and is in particular need of male singers.

Admission is £4, which includes tea and biscuits.
