AWARD-WINNING authors Bryan and Mary Talbot will appear at Skipton Library later this month as part of the Read Regional campaign.

Their latest graphic novel, Sally Heathcote: Suffragette, tells the inside story of the campaign for votes for women and follows the fortunes of a maid-of-all-work, who is swept up in the feminist militancy of Edwardian Britain.

Bryan is a well-known graphic novelist and author of the Grandville series while Mary is an internationally acclaimed scholar of language, gender and power.

In 2012, they won a Costa Award for their book, Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes.

Mary said: "We are delighted that our graphic novel Sally Heathcote Suffragette has been chosen as one of this year’s books for Read Regional.

"We’ll be giving illustrated talks about Sally Heathcote as well as discussing more generally what graphic novels have to offer. It’s the first time a graphic novel has ever been included and it’s a great opportunity for us to get more readers interested in them. And, of course, we always welcome an opportunity to promote our books!"

The event will take place on Wednesday, April 29, at 7.30pm and to book a place, contact the library on 0845 034 9538.
