SKIPTON: Craven Museum and Gallery's current exhibition celebrates two of the town's internationally-renowned festivals, which will be staged in the autumn.

A Tale of Two Festivals showcases the delights of the Yarndale Festival in September and the Puppet Festival in October.

It will run until October 4.

* There is still chance to view an exhibition of work by artist Judy Sale at the Mill Bridge Gallery.

Travel on The Edge shows Judy’s bright, bold abstract canvasses, which have been inspired by the many countries in which she has lived and worked.

American-born Judy, who now lives in Haworth, is also involved in restoring ancient buildings.

It will run until Saturday.

* Talented female vocalist Lianne King will perform in the concert room at the White Rose Club on Saturday from 8pm.

* An exhibition highlighting historic buildings in the Yorkshire Dales has been extended until next week.

Every Picture Tells A Story is made up of photographs of a range of buildings – and parts of them – that have been selected by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) Historic Environment team.

Images form part of the Yorkshire Dales Historic Environment Record, and were originally taken to inform the day-to-day work of the team.

The exhibition – open every day at Holy Trinity Church – will now run until Wednesday.

SETTLE: Pendle Productions will stage a musical adaption of the classic story Alice in Wonderland at Victoria Hall.

The hour-long show promises to have the audience dancing in the aisles!

From Alice's first meeting with the Mad Hatter to her last encounter with the Queen of Hearts, the performance will have onlookers either on the edge of their seats or jumping for joy.

The show will be staged on Sunday at 2.30pm and tickets cost £7, with family deals available.

* The second Settle Folk Gathering will be held next week.

It will kick off with a family ceilidh next Friday, with music provided by The William Small Small Orchestra and interval songs from Karin and Rosie.

There will also be late night dancing with Duncan McFarlane and The Rock 'n' Roll Folk Band.

Next Saturday is a day of street dancing with teams like Frook Morris and Craven’s own Flagcrackers performing in the cordoned-off town square.

There will be an Open Mic event at the Victoria Hall in the afternoon before an evening concert featuring Sheesham and Lotus and Son from the USA.

Next Sunday, the Churchfitters will make a rare appearance from their base in Brittany and support will be provided by Roisin Dubh, a Leeds-based Irish band, and Flossie Malavialle, one of the best loved performers on the folk scene.

* Organisers of the popular Settle Sessions poetry recitals will run a free holiday workshop at Settle Library today to inspire youngsters to get into poetry.

Run in partnership with Settle Library, the fun session will be taught by experienced poets who will help budding young writers create their own poem.

It is aimed at youngsters aged between seven and 12.

There will also be an opportunity for the newly inspired poets to perform their poems in front of a live audience at the next Settle Sessions event at The Folly, in September.

Those interested should register their interest with Settle Library.

* The Gallery on the Green - housed in a converted telephone kiosk - is hosting a photographic exploration of the US Pacific Northwest by June Davies From Tiny to Tall features bugs, birds, flowers, beaches, sunsets and magnificent redwood forests from the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.

* The new Gavagan Art Gallery, in Settle Town Hall, is holding its first exhibition.

Called Beyond the Horizon: Paintings of North Yorkshire and Provence, it features work by Norman Adams.

A professor at the Royal Academy Schools, he bought a house at Horton-in-Ribblesdale in the 1950s and the rugged North Craven landscape proved an inspiration.

The exhibition features a number of works from this period which haven't previously been exhibited as well as watercolours painted in Provence where Adams sought inspiration from the landscape which had influenced Van Gogh, a painter he greatly admired.

The exhibition will run until Monday.

* The Lime Gallery at The Courtyard is holding its summer exhibition.

It features work by artists Hester Cox, Margaret Uttley, Pam Grimmond, Colin Binns, Casey Allum, Tracy Levine, Anna Tosney and Sarah Cemmick.

* Visitors to The Museum of North Craven Life have the choice of two exhibitions.

Community Skills tells the story of the potteries in Burton-in-Lonsdale, which were fired up in the mid 18th century and showcases around 60 pots from the museum’s collection.

It runs until November 1.

The second exhibition, Reality Hits Home, focuses on the First World War and contrasts the frontline experiences of the volunteers with life at home where people were fearful for the first time of enemy attack from the skies.

It will run until the end of August.

BARNOLDSWICK: Barnoldswick's soul nights will return tomorrow after a summer break.

And taking charge will be DJ Tom Dacey, who started as a photographer on the soul circuit.

He will be helped by Ethan and Jordan who starred as extras in the film, Northern Soul, which was released last year.

The event will take place at Rolls-Royce Leisure Club in Skipton Road from 8pm to 1am and admission is £5 on the door.

BUCKDEN: Members of Buckden Art Group will hold their 25th annual exhibition in the village institute from Saturday to Wednesday.

The show will include up to 150 mixed subject and media paintings and a special section for the Flowers of the Dales Festival featuring summer meadows, wild flowers and Dales barns Admission is free and the exhibition can be viewed daily between 11am and 5pm. Donations will be taken for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

CLAPHAM: Settle Photographic Group will stage its annual exhibition in Clapham Village Hall from Saturday to Monday.

The show will be officially opened by World of Interiors editor Rupert Thomas at a preview event tomorrow.

The exhibition will feature about 90 pictures and will be open daily from 11am to 5pm. Entry is free and refreshments will be available.

GARGRAVE: Sean Gilligan's Band will provide the music at a village hall ceilidh in aid of the NSPCC on Saturday, from 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 per person or £5 for children and can be obtained from committee members or Poppyfields Florist on 01756 748071. A pie and pea supper is included in the entry fee and there will also be a licensed bar and raffle.

GRASSINGTON: A craft fair showcasing the work of local artists and craftspeople will be staged at Grassington Town Hall.

It will take place on Saturday, September 12, from 10am to 4pm and entry is £1, which includes a cup of tea or coffee.

KELBROOK: Kelbrook Art Group will stage its annual exhibition in the village hall over the Bank Holiday weekend.

More than 300 pictures will be available to view or buy and visitors can buy a raffle tickets to win a painting donated by local artist Julie Parrish.

All proceeds will be donated to local charities and homemade refreshments will also be on sale.

Admission is free and the exhibition will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Monday and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday.

UPPER WHARFEDALE: Some of the country’s top young musicians will give two concerts in Upper Wharfedale.

Students from the Vacation Chamber Orchestra will perform at Grassington Town Hall tomorrow at 7.30pm and at Kettlewell Village Hall on Monday at noon.

The programme will include Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Bartok’s Romanian Dance, Malcolm Arnold’s Concerto for Two Violins and Strings and Puccini’s Crisantemi.
