SKIPTON: One of the world’s most celebrated cellists Raphael Wallfisch will headline an eclectic repertoire of string solo and orchestral music at Skipton Town Hall on Saturday.
He will join Skipton Building Society Camerata for its first local concert of 2016.
Playing alongside them will be 12-year-old violinist Alexandra Keeley, of Ilkley, a former student of the Yehudi Menuhin School near London, who also performed at last year’s Grassington Festival.
The concert aptly entitled On the Shoulders of Giants will showcase music from 18th century Austria and 20th century Russia, with Wallfisch as the soloist in Shostakovich’s powerful First Cello Concerto.
Alexandra will play The Adélaïde Concerto.

* Craven Museum and Gallery, Skipton, is hosting a new exhibition showcasing some of the top contemporary Islamic artists working in the UK.
The world-class Faith In Art exhibition runs until March 28.
Curated by Initiative founder Mobeen Butt, the exhibition brings together ten exceptional artists and showcases calligraphy, geometry, arabesque, illumination, miniature painting, wood crafting, paper-cutting, embroidery, fabric printing and three dimensional works.
The exhibition - which is being held in collaboration with the Muslim Museum Initiative - also includes work created at a five-week ‘Introduction to Arabic Calligraphy' course and a paper-cutting workshop inspired by Turkish Iznik patterns.

With DJs Leigh Oliver, Gaz Norris and Matt Childs, it will entertain with all things electric.
* Skipton Folk Unplugged will hold a singers night on Monday.

SETTLE: A group of girls from Settle College have put together a new exhibition for the town's Gallery on the Green.
They spoke to their mothers, grandmothers and other women from the town about their lives and what it was like for women living in the town in previous times.
The results are revealed in the Talking Across Our Generations exhibition.
Complemented by a collection of photographs, many of which have never been seen in public before, the exhibition provides a fascinating insight into different lives and how generations relate to each other.
The exhibition will run until March 19.

ARNCLIFFE: The family film, Minions, will be screened at Amerdale Hall next Sunday, February 21.
The film concentrates on three minions seeking employment with supervillan Scarlett Overkill in the 1960s and their engagement in a plot to steal the crown of the Queen of England.
The screening starts at 2pm and tickets cost £2.50 in advance or £3 on the door for under 16s and £4.50 in advance or £5 on the door for adults. They are available from littondale.net
BRADLEY: Bradley Film Club will show the 2015 American romantic fantasy film, Cinderella, tonight.
Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the screening in the school hall from 6pm. Admission is free.
CARLETON: A country music club which normally meets in Skipton has changed its concert venue to Carleton-in-Craven.
Iron Horse CMC's next event, which features the first appearance of Nigel Slater, will be held on Saturday at the new venue of Carleton Social Club.
Nigel started playing the guitar at the age of nine and played occasional gigs with his father, Bill, who was part of the Alan Ford Duo. When he was 21, he formed Blue Rodeo with Paul Taylor and, in 2012, decided to go solo following encouragement from his partner, Joanne

EMBSAY: The Woman in Gold will be screened at Embsay-with-Eastby Village Hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
The woman was Adele Bloch Bauer, the beautiful wife of a wealthy Viennese industrialist, whose portrait was painted by Gustav Klimt in 1907. It was confiscated by the Nazis from the family mansion in Vienna and after the war the painting became the most prized exhibit in Austria’s Belvedere Gallery.
When in the 1980s a surviving niece discovered the possibility of reclaiming the portrait of her aunt, an exciting detective story started to unfold.
Admission at the door is £5 including tea and biscuits.
GARGRAVE: The Gargrave and Malhamdale Library Group will host another film night in the village hall tomorrow.
The featured film will be the Hundred Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren and Manish Dayal. The plot revolves around the opening of an Indian restaurant in a quaint French village in close proximity to an acclaimed French restaurant.
Doors open at 7pm with the film starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 on the door.
GIGGLESWICK: John Bradshaw will discuss his thoughts on courage at the next Gigg lecture.
He grew up during the civil war in Zimbabwe and on leaving school, he was conscripted into the military where he joined a bomb disposal and anti-landmine unit.
It was during this time that he was caught in a blast, eventually losing his sight.

LANGCLIFFE: Music lovers in Langcliffe missed out on their Twelfth Night concert this year after the group, Miscellany, disbanded.
However, some of its members have started a new group, Encore, and they have agreed to give a concert at the institute next Saturday, February 20.

KELBROOK: Hannah Hird and students will provide music at a Valentine's Day Treat at St Mary's Church on Sunday, from 3pm to 5pm.

SILSDEN: The Travelling Bilberries will be in action at Silsden Sports Club on Saturday.
The gig has been organised by club chairman John Lohan and proceeds will go towards repairs and improvements to the security of the clubhouse following two recent break-ins.
