THE Andy Lawrenson Trio will tell The Stephane Grappelli Story at Settle's Victoria Hall on Saturday.

Grappelli was at the forefront of jazz violin for over 60 years after making his name in 1930s pre-war Paris with the legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt.

He continued to enthral audiences across the globe until his much-lamented death in the mid 1990s at the age of 89.

Over the years, he played on hundreds of recordings with artists such as Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson and Martin Taylor and a popular partnership with the classical violinist Yehudi Menuhin made Grappelli a household name.

Now the Andy Lawrenson Trio will pay tribute to the great musician, using the framework of his life story, from early days of grinding poverty to international acclaim in his own right.

With interplay between violin, double bass and guitar, the audience will be treated to greats such as Minor Swing and Sweet Georgia Brown as well as Grappelli's unique arrangements of It had to be You and Honeysuckle Rose.

Doors open at 6.45pm and tickets are available from settlevictoriahall.org.uk or call 01729 825718.
