WELL-KNOWN Settle poet Jean Stevens will launch her new collection of poems, Beyond Satnav, at the town's grade one-listed Folly next Friday, April 22.

The launch will take place during the first Settle Sessions gathering of 2016.

A poet and playwright, Jean has had poems published in numerous magazines, newspapers and anthologies and broadcast on BBC Radio Three and Radio Four.

She has won the Yorkshire Post Poetry Prize and Leeds Library Writing Prize. Her poems range from the lyrical to the colloquial, from the moving to the witty and, although her work is rooted in her response to the Yorkshire Dales where she lives, her writing embraces the world from Australia to Zimbabwe.

Her previous collection of poems, Undressing in Winter, was launched at Ilkley Literature Festival.

Beyond Satnav is published by Indigo Dreams.

The evening will also include readings of new work by Anne Caldwell. A poet and literature consultant, Anne works as literature programme manager for the British Council and her latest book of poetry, Painting the Spiral Staircase, is published by the Cinnamon Press.

And there will be the usual Read Two open mic session where local people can share their favourite poems.

The gathering starts at 7.30pm and tickets costing £6 (£5.50 for members) are available from The Folly, Cave and Crag, and The Courtyard Dairy, all in Settle.

For 2016, Settle Sessions has four evenings of poetry and short stories planned, including a celebration of National Poetry Day on October 6 at Settle Victoria Hall, and will be running a national poetry competition as well as one for funny poems in the Craven area through the summer.
