GRASSINGTON Festival has a reputation for attracting some of the biggest names on the comedy circuit, with the likes of Al Murray, Jack Dee and Jo Brand headlining in recent years.

This year, the festival brings not just one big name, but four, as it hosts its first-ever Live at the Marquee on Wednesday, June 29.

Headliner Rich Hall is bringing his famous musical Hoedown to Grassington – a show which was described by The Times as “immaculate wordplay imbued with a genuine passion for the songwriters craft”.

His critically acclaimed grouchy, deadpan style has established him as a master of irony and the king of rapid-fire wit and credited as the inspiration for The Simpsons' grumpy bar owner Moe Szyslak, you can expect plenty of rib poking at Americans from Montana-born Hall.

Joining him is London comedian Rob Beckett, who was recently described by The Guardian as “relentlessly funny”.

Beckett is well known on the comedy circuit, being a regular on BBC1’s Live at the Apollo, BBC2’s Mock the Week and Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 Cats.

Another big name stepping up to the Grassington Festival mic is Iranian-born Shappi Khorsandi, who after a year off writing her new book, is back with a brand new show.

Finally, the comedic compere for the evening is Manchester’s Justin Moorhouse. As well as being a radio DJ, Moorhouse has appeared alongside Michael McIntyre and in Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights.

Festival director Kate Beard said: “We are very excited at the festival to be hosting so many big name comedians and better still – all in one evening! The Festival Marquee is a really unique and special venue which guarantees a night to remember.”
