THE Bolton Abbey Estate will host its biggest-ever concert later this year.

Welsh superstar mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins will perform with the National Symphony Orchestra in a live outdoor concert on the banks of the river Wharfe.

The musical spectacle is set to take place on Saturday, September 10, and thousands of fans are expected to descend on the Dales village.

It will be biggest concert to be staged in the estate's 800-year history.

The event will see one of the world’s most famous classical singers perform against the backdrop of Bolton Priory ruins, which date back to the 12th century. A stunning firework finale will close the programme.

Katie Collin, events manager at Bolton Abbey, said: “We are delighted to welcome Katherine Jenkins to Bolton Abbey. It’s the perfect setting for such a spectacular musical evening and it marks the start of new and ambitious plans to stage a programme of outdoor concerts and events here on the estate which will attract even more visitors to the region.”

Concert-goers are welcome to enjoy their own food and drink and bring chairs and rugs to the outdoor picnic-style event. Food and drink will also be on sale and VIP packages and speciality hampers will be available to pre-book.

Katherine Jenkins is one of the world’s most prolific classical singer, having released 10 studio albums since she burst onto the music scene in 2003. Most recently Katherine performed, by request, at Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle.

It will not be her first visit to Craven, though - she was one of the headline acts at the 2006 Grassington Festival.
