THE National Youth Choir of Great Britain will hold an energy-filled, fun-packed vocal day for children next week.

Ready, Steady, Sing! will be staged at Giggleswick School next Friday, June 24, from 9.30am and will give choral experience to children in years five to seven.

It will be led by the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain’s deputy music director, Esther Jones, who was recently seen on BBC TV’s The Choir: Sing While You Work with Gareth Malone.

She will lead warm-ups and games before introducing pupils to a range of techniques. They will then work together to create a performance in just one day, which will be performed in front of families, other year groups and friends in Giggleswick Chapel at 2pm.

Esther said: "It’s going to be a fun-filled lively day getting everyone singing and exploring their voices through a variety of repertoire.

"We have not previously done a lot of work in Yorkshire so myself and the whole team at National Youth Choirs of Great Britain hope this is the start of more activity in the region, and most of all more young people getting involved in singing."

NYCGB choirs regularly broadcast on the BBC and Classic FM and routinely appear at high-profile venues and festivals around the UK and abroad. In the past five years, its choirs have appeared at the BBC Proms, Snape Proms, City of London Festival, Royal Festival Hall, Sage Gateshead and the Malta International Choral Festival.

The workshop day is funded by Giggleswick School and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and is free to attend. All pupils need is their own packed lunch.

Giggleswick School’s head of music, James Taylor, said: "We’re really excited to be hosting this event. We have planned the day to enable as many schools to come and take part as possible, there’s some really impressive choirs out there already and I hope we can all join together for what promises to be a fantastic day of choral work."
