BEAT-HERDER - described as a jewel in the northern music festival calendar - will return next Friday, July 15.

Held on fields between Gisburn and Sawley, the entire site is made from scratch, including the tunnels in the woods leading to secret raves and a chapel, complete with Sunday service. There is even a secluded on-site swimming pool nestled in the woods.

The three-day festival - which originating as a free rave in 2006 - has grown through word-of-mouth recommendations and this year boasts a stellar line-up.

Todd Terje will play his infectious Norwegian disco live in his Sunday main stage headline slot, while beat-boxer and production whiz Beardyman will invite world-class musicians and freestyle MCs to make a brand new album live, inspired by song titles made up by the audience.

Acid house and techno veteran A Guy Called Gerald and co-founder of Skull Disco Appleblim are confirmed for the Trash Manor stage while The Fortress, one of the most exhilarating stages at Beat-Herder, will welcome BBC Radio 1 DJ B Traits and Bristolian DJ/production duo Stanton Warriors plus sets from Ed Solo, Paul Taylor and Mark Archer (Altern8).

Legends in the drum 'n' bass scene, TC feat MC Jakes will headline The Ring on Saturday, joining festival favourites Jauz, Delta Heavy, A Skillz and jungle veteran General Levy.

Other acts include Scottish psych-rockers Primal Scream, folk-pop troubadour Donovan, Swedish indie pop band Miike Snow, reggae giants Chronixx and Zincfence Redemption and German house maestros Booka Shade.

There is also a comedy stage, featuring Tom Stade (Live At The Apollo, Michael McIntyre's Roadshow, The John Bishop Show), stand-up storyteller Rob Rouse (8 Out of 10 Cats, Celebrity Juice, Dave's One Night Stand), former comedy reviewer turned comedienne Fern Brady (8 Out of 10 Cats, Seann Walsh's Late Night Comedy Spectacular), Keith Carter, Rob Mulholland and Danny Sutcliffe.

And for the first time, Beat-Herder will be teaming up with psychedelic party crew Sunrise. Now in its 19th year, Sunrise started in Manchester and has grown to be one of the most well-respected psytrance parties today.

Also new for 2016 is The Illustrious Society stage where suits, steam punk or vintage attire are mandatory for entry.
